A 12-year-old girl is pregnant in Belfast (U.K.), and the child could become one of Britain’s youngest moms ever after allegedly being raped by a 19-year-old man.
The legal age of consent in Britain is 13, and the 19-year-old who had sex with the girl has been arrested after the girl’s pregnancy was reported to the cops. Her family is said to be in shock. It’s not clear what her relationship was with the man who impregnated her.
According to the Daily Mail, a local police spokesman said, “Police arrested a 19 year old man in the West Belfast area on Thursday 1st October in relation to a sexual offence. The man has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.”
Another 12-year-old girl made waves after giving birth in England last year, thereby becoming the country’s youngest mom, but she’d had sex with a 13-year-old boy so it wasn’t considered rape. She had reportedly dated the boy for a year when she got pregnant at age 11.
